First Novice Obedience Class
We had a bit of a focus issue when it came to heeling lol. There was another Papillon in the class that looked a little too much like Lilly that Knight thought was his bestest friend EVER. Haha, so we have plenty of room to grow.
I got some tips to clean up Knight's finish, I'll start working on that more in these upcoming weeks. I think I'm going to hold off on putting him into the Beginner's Novice ring until April. By then I might even be confident enough to go straight to Novice haha. Plus he'll have his RN, and some ring experience in agility too.
Whenever I mention my plans for obedience with Knight the word "boring" comes up. Am I the only one who doesn't find obedience boring? I think it's beautiful. Working up to snapping teamwork in a sport that's not high drive. Plus, Knight has so much personality he could make watching grass grow exciting xD

Working Things Out
We have been going to half hour lessons over at Rocky creek. The past two he's been a bit funny. Really just ignored me and hid behind the instructor. I made the mistake of lowering my voice slightly when I said his name after he missed a pole on the weaves and he refused to go near them the rest of the lesson. He's very sensitive when it comes to picking up hints of my dissapointment or frustration so I really do need to watch that. He doesn't know I'm frustrated with myself and not him.
After bombing the class on Wednesday I took him out thursday for a two minute session with lots of tugging and treats and that perked him right up again. Yesterday I took him out to play again and he was on FIRE! Dang, the little speed demon perfectionist was back haha.
We haven't been to any shows or Rally-O trials since June. I've been crazy busy. But I am going to take him to a Novice Obedience class tomorrow. We'll see how that goes :D
Starting in December I'll be going a half hour early to archery so I can leave by 8 and make it over to the Novice agility class at the club. I'll just do that through Dec and January. Hopefully by then I'll have a job and can afford to get him in the monday class along with Lilly. Then I can practice the full time with my X-team and not stretch my limits so much on Friday nights.

Happy Happy Birthday
So Maybe it's true, I can't live without you :)
I love this dog xD I know I haven't updated this blog in ages, but I'm starting it back up again with at least weekly updates.
Knight will be going to the "big dog" agility class this Friday with Lilly :D I can't wait to see how he does at our club. I'd like to get some video but no promises. We also might do a DOCNA non-traditional gambers (like CPE fullhouse) this weekend, just to see how he does at a trial setting.
We're also getting back into Rally-O next month. I have two trials I'd like to go to so we can knock off his RN title. Meanwhile I'm going to start working the stuff he needs for the next level, and getting his heelwork Obedience ring worthy :)
More updates to come in the future, but for now, Happy birthday Little Man!
A Huge thanks to Letty, who took a chance and replied to the e-mail from a 15 year old kid who had just gotten her novice titles on her first papillon. He's everything I ever could of dreamed of and fits in so well with my family. His personality compliments Lilly's so completely too. I can't believe he's a year old already, time sure flies :)

Let the Classes Begin!
My first thoughts were, No problem! I want to take a Monday class with Lilly anyway. Then I realized all the building block/sequencing/novice classes where on Fridays from 6:00-10:00 (3 different classes). So I could train Knight at home until he's at Novice level and just go to the class after archery, right?
Almost right, I feel like I need a bit of guidence when it comes to training my baby dog in agility. I'm sure if I did it all by myself he'd turn out just fine, but I'd prefer finding a class or two to get us in and work with competition sized equipment. After a bit of poking around, I think I've just found one.
It would be a 1/2 private lesson on Monday from 4:30-5:00. Which would give me an hour to get together back at home before I set out for Lilly's class. I still have my learners permit... so I have to get mom to tag along but she gave me the okay for a class next monday.
I just shot the trainer an e-mail, hopefully we'll be all set for a Monday lesson. Fingers Crossed :D

He Got The Magic
On the last day of my OWLES trip, Knight got to tag along on a small Rattlesnake hike. My entire group just fell in love with him. On the van ride back to camp he mirgated from lap to lap as we sang along to the overplayed songs on the radio.
Knight went back up to New Hampshire in August for a week filled with enjoying the glorious weather. It was warm enough to wear t-shirts, but not hot enough for it to be miserable outside. He went on a 7 mile hike, swam in the falls, ran around the feilds of camp, and even got his own scoop of ice cream at the local shop.
Knight is now 10 months old, while I've been lazy in the obedience department, we've worked a good bit on our agility foundation.
The other day I introduced Knight to the "Go" command. Meaning, "there is a straight line of obsticals in front of you, Just keep going until I ask otherwise". Right now I have a straight tunnel, a jump, and a tire, and he has a pretty solid grip of the idea :)
Here's a video of the agility training we did during August.

Weekend Results
A Q In Novice A Rally-O! I'll get the exact score posted once I know what it is haha(Knight got a 90!), But he placed 3rd out of 10 (Miss Lilly was second). Everyone said he was just really fun to watch which makes me happy. He was having fun, and I was having fun, and they could tell. That is what dog training should be all about.
We also got two class seconds this weekend, out of 3 on Sat, out of 2 on Sunday. He showed really well both days. I couldn't of asked for more.

DSF Week 3 and Show Handling Class
We sat farther away from the door this week at our Dog Sports Fundamentals class and Knight's focus improved 150% haha. The only time it suffered was during the group heeling. He gets a bit nervous with larger dogs looming over him.
We worked on recalls, foundation for drop on recall, heeling, and some right side walking. She introduced the drop on recall in a really interesting way that I had never though of before. She brought us each a peice of the broad jump and we set it upright. The dogs were on one side and the handlers on the other. We released them then asked for a down as they approached the board, then backed up while keeping the board in place if they did it correctly.
But yes, that went well, OH, we also worked on targetting a... well a target, or in our case a coffee cup lid. DK picked up super quickly so I'll add some distance at home this week.
Show Handling
We finally got out to show handling this week. Knight did really well. He was a bit skittish when the black GSD got too close to us, but so was I. The owner had little to no control of her dog 90% of the class.
Besides that, he was gaiting really well, stunning free stacks (as always), and even surprised me with some stellar confidence up on the table. Our instructor was pretty impressed with him and asked to make sure I was getting out in the ring with him. Most of our classmates will be over at the Ludwigs so it should be a really fun weekend. I just need to go out and buy another skirt... probably a black one to wear with one of my blue tops?
The Rally-O Diaries
Day 3
I have not forgetten about these! Just the videos haven't been coming as frequently as I had hoped lol. I worked on Knight's "go to heel" and he picked it up in about 30 seconds.
His straight heeling is looking, or feeling, pretty snazzy now too, along with all his right turns. We just need to clean up our left turns and I think we'll be pretty decent for the trial :)

Start of the Rally-O Diaries
I plan to work on two things each day, in the morning we'll work on endurance/distractions on sits and downs, and heeling in the evening.
Each afternoon I'll try to work on his Stand for exam too. Hopefully we'll be ready for Novice Obedience come the fall :)

DSF: Week 2
So next week I'm stitting away from the door, and doing more work at home. This week I had no time to work on what we were supposed to do for HW. Between working, sleeping, and doing schoolwork both dogs got a lot less work then they deserved.
What we worked on
Left turns in heeling
Go outs (Obedience)
Sits (adding on, distance or distractions)
Downs (Adding on, distance or distractions)
Wednesday, May 26, 2010
DSF: Week 1
What we worked on:
Hand Targets
Sit Stays
Go Outs (Obedience)
Name Game
A little off his focus, but overall a good class :)

But yes, Here they are :D

Let's Get This Started
I'm also doing at least 10 recalls a day with Knight. At High Fields this summer there are going to be lots of tempting things to sniff and lots of creatures bigger than him x_x So yes, I'll also have my mom do a few recalls a day since Lil is never as responsive to my mom as she is to me when it comes to things I've trained.
But yes, small update for Mr. Knight. I plan on entering him in Rally-O June 4th or 5th so hopefully we'll have a pretty snazzy heel by then :D

The Best Thing Bout To-Knight
Friday we ran from the van into the ring. He was side winding and I was too flustered to get my mind to remember what to do to fix it. The judge liked his free stack and asked for another down and back which we failed xD But it was a fun day none the less.
Sunday we were back in the ring against 4 papillon puppy dogs. Knight took class second again! I totally forgot about competing for "reserve" so we missed that both days but you live and learn xD
We both had lots of fun this weekend. I think with a bit of time we could really get his Ch. I'll be entering him in Rally-O in June. so the rest f this month will involve lots of heel-work, down stays, sit stays, and of course random tricks and shaping :)

Here Comes the Knight
Okay, so not physically here right this second, since Vimeo is taking ages, but it will located here once it's uploaded completely.
And Now it is!
Lilly and Knight- April 2010 from Grey Hound on Vimeo.
Today we did a two Chute sessions. He is... wow. Crazy fast. I did get clips and will make a second video for that later :) **Turn down the speakers** It's "I'm not your boyfriend baby" by 3Oh!3 so a bit screamy at the start

Insight for the Knight
Knight Conformation- 6 months from Grey Hound on Vimeo.
So I tossed together a quick little gaiting and free stacking practice with Knight today. I need to work on making sure he's going in a straight line. But I think it's coming along nicely! My handsome little man :)

Petite Pooch- Level 1- Week 6
For the last week we worked on our recalls, stays, leave it, loose lead walking, the foundation of "swing" (front to heel), and a bit of baby agility.
The Recall: Knight's restrained recall is killer. I had steak as a treat this week and he just came flying at me, slid the last foot into a perfect front. Now I just need to work on his recalls when he's already absorbed in something.
The Stay: The foundation is coming along very well. I can give him the stay, walk two feet away and even tug on his harness a bit and he'll hold it. Now I'm starting to add in me walking all the way around him while he holds his stay.
The leave it: Currently if I place it on the floor and ask for a leave it his eyes go straight to me. Now we need to work on an auto leave, so if I accidently drop, say an M&M, he'd ignore it automatically.
Loose Lead Walking: This is also coming along very very nicely. Right now he's actually givimg me too much attention that he forgets to watch were he's walking and is just all eyes on me. So he's crowding a bit and wrapping around front which can be deadly for such a little guy. So I need to redirect his focus somewhere other than my face for the heeling. Don't wanna trip over him D:
With the baby agility we did the mini dog-walk, a short tunnel, and the pause table. All of which we've been working on at home. Dispite the distractions around he was still all focus and drive.
Now we have a few weeks break to get everything looking sharp before we jump into Dogsports fundamentals :D

Outshine the Knight
He was the only pap, so he took breed, and ended 3rd out of 3 for group. We're planning on trying the real deal May 7th :) I'm really looking forward to it xD

Petite Pooch- Level 1- Week 5
This week when I'm doing "stay" practice I want to work not only in front of him, but behind him too. By the end of the week I'd like to be able to walk all the way around him while he's in a sit, down, or stand.
With Heeling this week we're going to work on our halts (sit in heel) along with 90 degree lefts, rights, and abouts. We're taking things slowly and keeping it really fun. I hope to have him ready to trial in Rally-O Novice come June :)

Envy The Knight Life
Got quite a few compliments towards Sir Knight, I'm really looking forward to our Match this coming weekend.
A Fellow Pappy owner suggested I look into Rally-O, and I think I'm going to, maybe even with Lil too, Just for fun if they offer it at the shows we're going to, why not?
It will be some good ring practice, and maybe even set us up for the more serious obedience later :)

And Day Fades Into Knight
Charlie came over for a few good hours. We let them play for awhile indoors, then outdoors while we chilled in the hottub, and went for a long walk before settling down for Dinner. Two very tired Papillons were the results of the days event. Knight is out cold in Mandy's lap right now.
Tomorrow I'm going to try to start taking daily pictures. We'll see how this works out lol

Petite Pooches- Level 1- Week 4
We also worked a bit more on recalls, leave it, and wait at the gate.
This week I plan on working on heeling, recalls, leave it, informal retrieves, and at least one new trick, along with random shaping.
We've got our next match coming up so I really need to get out to show handling class and work more on his stand for exam and hands on stuff.
Agility wise, not too much, I'll probably do a bit of tunnel work, and then I've introduced the 2o2o posistion (not on real equipment, on the Wii fit board lol) so I plan to a have que for 2o2o and for running :)
Another Charlie Play date tomorrow!

A Hard Day's Knight
I made a small teeter with the old teeter board. It's older and curving, but it gets the basic idea down, it's like a full length tippy board :D Along with that I build two small puppy jumps that are about 2" off the ground. And took my two adjustable jumps down to about an inch off the ground. So now Knight has quite a few things in his mini course. I'm being very careful with the jumping. Not pushing it since he obviously won't need training to teach him to jump lol.
He's fast as a bullet, he's gonna give me a run for my money haha. I'm thinking Charlie and Knight will probably get into Dog Sports Fundamentals before I head out for OWLES. Maybe starting in May? then a break from Mid June through Mid July and pick up with Foundations 1 when I get back. Then he'll be 9 months in Foundation 1 and 10 months when the start to introduce the weave poles in Foundations 2.
This week I'm getting him back into Show Handling Classes hopefully lol. Mandy is coming home but that shouldn't affect our Class at all. Gotta work some more on our heeling, along with sits, downs, waits, and nose touches this week :)

Petite Pooches- Level 1- Week 3
Knight got distracted by the fuzzballs during the second recall, but he was pretty good with the first. Everything else he did with ease. His waits are getting pretty solid along with his release. And I'm very happy with the progress on his sits, downs, and rise. Need to work on the transition from down to sit. and from down to rise before I'm ready to drop the reinforcement rate.
Today I also introduced him to the tippy board, I actually need to slow him down a bit on that haha. By the time he gets to the tipping point he's really to bound right off. Much different to the dancing around I had to do with Lilly. This boy is confident and thinks flying around is much more suitable than walking. So I'll be sanding that up that weekend, once I get two more rollers and have it just like a mini teeter.
His stand for exam is shaping up nicely, Currently I've been doing up to three pats before I treat. I'm going to start working on building up having one of the sibling come over and do the petting.
I'll be sure to snap some pictures this weekend :)

Petite Pooch- Level 1- Week 2
Knight is still a bit skiddish with the barking and seems to be... very submissive I guess with other people. Flopping around on the floor a bit and dashing back to me after he got treats. It looks like I need to get him out and about a bit more. Next week I'll be starting up show handling again so that should help.
I let Knight play in the tunnel again today and did some go-outs with a pole in the ground. I need to remember that Knight is not Lilly. Just because he did the tunnel once does not mean that he knows it. So I really gotta keep that reinforcement rate high. I'll start setting out a target for him and sending him out to the tunnel this coming week.
So, things we need to work on.
-Stand for exam
-loose lead heeling
-nose touches (pretty solid, but more work never kills anyone)
-RECALLS
-Straight tunnel. Different entries, keep it short, fast, and fun.
-Grooming (As tasty as they may look, brushes are not for eating)
-More Crate Games
-Laying quiet gets you out of your ex-pen/crate
-Informal retrieves
-Rollover (started it this past week)
-Back up

Pawsabilities 2010
I need to crack down on his table work a bit, standing still while people touch him and getting more comfortable with me stacking him. We have a good 4 weeks till our next match which is more than enough time to shapen up a bit.
Tomorrow we're off to a playdate with Charles, I'll be sure to snap some pictures and get some video this time around.

Level 1 Class: Week 1

Knight currently reacts to other dogs barking. He gets nervous and tries to get up in my lap away from the noise, or runs behind me. At show handling last week he was also very wary of the Irish Water Spaniel behind us.
So We've got alot of work to do there... just getting him more comfortable around other dogs that actually want to see him. Since Lilly aka "Casey" (mom's nickname for her, from the show Chuck) does everything to avoid confrontation with him. Then just stiffens up and growls and he wacks her in the face with his paws x_x
I've been working on informal retrieving, tossing out a ball, then trading the ball for a treat when he comes running back. Started to introduce the heel posistion, and now I really need to get to work on his crate behavior more.
I'm going to start cracking down on outside potty work this coming week. With me he's been great with using his litter box, now it's time to work on the outdoor stuff, as I really don't want to drag a litter box with me everywhere lol.
His crate manners need some MAJOR work, as he was horrible at agility class last week, now he's prety good with his ex-pen manners, time to shape up that crate.
His Conformation Match is tomorrow! So Booger boy needs a bath today, I'm a little nervous, but also very excited. :)

Dedication Takes a LifeTime
I think everybody is pretty impressed with him, I know I sure am haha. I'm really looking forward to his first match which is only two weeks away now :D

Why So Serious?
Knight has a pretty good Sit, Down, and a nice spin right now. I really need to get on that recall and some stacking next :) Speaking of which, Charlie's show lead came today which means Knight's should be coming hopefully tomorrow! I'm really pumped for that, it's going to be so pretty :D
We've been playing some crate games along with tearing through that mini tunnel. Mannn, does this boy love to TUGGGG! Wowza, I love how much he loves to play. Though he does tend to make everything a toy, and I mean EVERYTHING. Leaves, grass, socks, pens, pencils, books. Anything that is on the floor is work attempting to play with lol.
I still need to set up a vet visit for him, He's been here for almost 3 weeks now and has yet to meet our vet. He'll probably skip out on the Dream Park, and Dillsburg Trial, but he may come with us to Hatfield. He'll be coming to Lums Pond for sure though. And I'm hoping to jump into Junior showmanship with him at the Ludwig's Corner show in June before I leave for OWLES.
Not too much went on today, very chill day. Looks like another snow storm though for tomorrow x_____x
