DSF: Week 1

So! We started Knight's first Dog Sports Fundamentals Class last night :D It's a six week session, but we'll only be able to attend 5 of the weeks as I'm heading off to my 3 week Wilderness adventure during the week of the 6th class.

What we worked on:
Hand Targets
Sit Stays
Go Outs (Obedience)
Name Game

A little off his focus, but overall a good class :)

The Ground Work of Heeling

Here's a video of some heeling I did with Knight and Lilly outside last Thursday. Knight's session was short. A few steps, a turn, and clicks for eye contact. Today we'll work on upping how many steps we can do at full focus in a straight line. 4 is currently our baseline.

But yes, Here they are :D

Let's Get This Started

I've now started on Knight's heel work outdoors. It's back to the basics, up to 3 steps, click, then treat. Indoors he's got his turns and straight lines down pretty well :) Once we're up to about 20 steps we'll start adding in the turns outside as well.

I'm also doing at least 10 recalls a day with Knight. At High Fields this summer there are going to be lots of tempting things to sniff and lots of creatures bigger than him x_x So yes, I'll also have my mom do a few recalls a day since Lil is never as responsive to my mom as she is to me when it comes to things I've trained.

But yes, small update for Mr. Knight. I plan on entering him in Rally-O June 4th or 5th so hopefully we'll have a pretty snazzy heel by then :D

The Best Thing Bout To-Knight

Knight's first show weekend went really well! He took class second both days. On Friday it was out of two dogs, On Sunday out of four.

Friday we ran from the van into the ring. He was side winding and I was too flustered to get my mind to remember what to do to fix it. The judge liked his free stack and asked for another down and back which we failed xD But it was a fun day none the less.

Sunday we were back in the ring against 4 papillon puppy dogs. Knight took class second again! I totally forgot about competing for "reserve" so we missed that both days but you live and learn xD

We both had lots of fun this weekend. I think with a bit of time we could really get his Ch. I'll be entering him in Rally-O in June. so the rest f this month will involve lots of heel-work, down stays, sit stays, and of course random tricks and shaping :)
